KIU is a Higher Education Institute established under the companies act of Sri Lanka and is fully owned by KAATSU Highly Advanced Technology Training Center (PVT) Limited. KIU was established in the year 2009.The registered office is situated at 249/1, Malabe Road, Thalangama North, Battaramulla, Sri Lanka.

KIU is a leading non-state degree awarding higher educational institute accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and recognized by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka under section 25 A of the Universities Act, No.16 of 1978. KIU obtained degree awarding status for the purpose of developing Higher Education on 07th January 2015 with the Extraordinary Gazette notification (No. 1896/22).

Initially three degrees were approved in 2015 and since then KIU has been granted permission to conduct six more undergraduate degree programs and three post graduate degree programs. Thus far, nine undergraduate degree programs and four post graduate degree programs are being conducted. Also three cohorts of undergraduate students (totaling 350) in Bachelor of Science Honours in Nursing degree programme, having completed their degree programme successfully, had their convocation in year 2017, 2018 and year 2019 respectively.

KIU’s mandate was to incorporate practical, medical and allied education into an institution of higher learning. Today KIU has become a reality, unique among the private universities in Sri Lanka, with a mandate to offer a variety of learning opportunities to local and foreign students alike. KIU as one of the best private universities in Sri Lanka aims to expand the higher education opportunities in Sri Lanka, in support of the Sri Lankan government’s vision of making Sri Lanka the “Knowledge Hub” of Asia.
