Faculty of Nursing

The Faculty of Nursing at KIU, under the capable leadership of its Dean, has firmly established itself as a prominent institution. It comprises five dynamic departments: the Department of Basic Sciences, Department of Nursing Education, Department of Clinical Nursing, Department of Research and Development, and Department of Care Advancement. These departments collectively offer a comprehensive undergraduate program leading to a BSc Hons (Nursing). This program is designed with a forward-thinking approach, incorporating a diverse array of innovative modules that are not only evidence-based but also attuned to the dynamic healthcare landscape. Moreover, the Department of Care Advancement stands out by offering a NVQ level 3 Certificate in Caregiving. This distinct program further enhances the faculty’s commitment to providing a holistic and diversified education that equips students with the necessary skills to excel in the dynamic healthcare landscape.

Our Faculty of Nursing at KIU takes pride in fostering an engaging academic environment where nursing undergraduates are equipped to evolve into critically reflective practitioners, advocates, educators, and professional leaders. They are well-prepared to excel in a wide spectrum of care settings, embodying the highest standards of the nursing profession.

This programme aims to prepare a competent, caring, compassionate, and reflective nursing graduate skilled in the delivery of nursing care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals while successfully meeting the emerging needs of the national and international community. Academic Achievements – Faculty of Nursing

2023 ERS Congress

Mr. Akila Jayamaha, a distinguished member of the Faculty of Nursing at KIU, had the incredible opportunity to participate in the prestigious European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Congress 2023, which took place in the beautiful city of Milan, Italy, from 9th of September to 13th of September.

The ERS International Congress is an annual gathering that brings together some of the brightest minds in the field of respiratory medicine and science from around the globe. It serves as a platform to showcase the latest breakthroughs and innovations in this critical field of healthcare.

One of the highlights of Mr. Jayamaha’s participation was his poster presentation titled: “Physical Activity, Sedentary Behavior, and sleep quality of Sri Lankan adults with and without COPD – A Cross-sectional Study.”

Global Health Network Conference 2022

Mr. Akila Jayamaha participated in The Global Health Network Conference 2022 which was held at the University of Cape Town, South Africa from 23rd to 25th November 2022. This conference aimed to bring together health research teams, organizations, health workers, policymakers, and practitioners to explore together how health research can be embedded into every healthcare setting.

Ms. Chamilya Perera, Head of the Department of Research and Development, Faculty of Nursing, KIU attended as a guest speaker for the webinar on “Clinical Research Nurses-Emerging profile in Nursing” held on March 15, 2022, which was conducted by D Y Patil University School of Nursing, Navi Mumbai, India collaborate with Oxford University, UK.
