Entry requirements;

  • the successful completion of SLQF Level 6 in a Bachelor’s Honours Degree in any recognized University in the relevant area of study with a minimum of 30 credits; or
  • the successful completion of SLQF Level 6 in a Bachelor’s Honours Degree in any recognized University with a minimum of 30 credits in a related area of study and successful completion of a qualifying examination; or
  • the successful completion of SLQF Level 5 in a Bachelor’s Degree in any recognized University with a minimum of GPA 3.0 at a scale of 0-4 and successful completion of a qualifying examination which will be conducted after the completion of 30 credits equivalent to SLQF Level 6, in the same or related area of study; or
  • the successful completion of SLQF Level 7 or above in a relevant area of study; or
  • the successful completion of NVQ Level 7 with a minimum of GPA 3.0 at a scale of 0-4 and successful completion of a qualifying examination which will be conducted after the completion of 30 credits equivalent to SLQF Level6 or 7, as determined by the Specified Authority for admission in that field of specialization,

What will you study?

The Programme of study is consisted of specified preparatory courses and a research study which is worth of 60 credits (6000 notional hours) in the Master of Philosophy in Nursing [MPhil (Nursing)] degree programme offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, KIU

The candidate should complete a specified preparatory course concurrently or prior to the involvement of the research study to develop their knowledge on research. The specified preparatory courses consist of;

Compulsory Modules;

  • NUP1104 Statistics
  • NUP1203 Research Methods and Ethics in Nursing Research

Optional Modules – minimum of one module to be chosen based on the research area

  • NUP1205 Leadership and Management in Nursing
  • NUP1206 Educational Processes in Nursing
  • NUP2201 Quantitative Research Methods
  • NUP2202 Qualitative Research Methods

A minimum of “Pass” is required at the final examination of the preparatory course for becoming eligible to submit the thesis.

  • Graduates (SLQF Level 5 & 6) who get registered directly for the programme are expected to follow the preparatory course and gain a pass mark to be eligible to submit the thesis.
  • An exemption is given for the compulsory components (NUP1104 & NUP1203) of the preparatory course for those graduates who have obtained Master of Nursing Education/ Management/ Master of Science in Nursing offered by KIU.

 

Duration

Full time: A minimum period of two (02) years up to a maximum of four (04) years.
Part time: A minimum period of three (03) years up to a maximum of seven (07) years.

Admission Process

Applications are called by advertising n print, electronic media, and can be obtained from the Faculty of Graduate Studies, KIU. Duly completed application, curriculum vitae, a document on academic qualifications, and two letters of recommendation (academic and professional) should be forwarded to the Registrar of the KIU. The application processing fee should be paid at the time of submission of the application.
Candidate should submit a research proposal (minimum of 2500 words) with the application for MPhil (Nursing) studies. Proposal should be included with a background, significance of the research topic, research questions and / or hypotheses, a brief literature review, how the intended research will address gaps within the literature, the proposed research design of the intended research, the expected contributions that will make to the academic discipline, and the implications for practice. At the end of the proposal, a reference list should be included.
